Compendex Adds AIAA Standards

on Tue, 04/02/2019 - 15:37

AIAA, or the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, self-proclaims that its members have achieved virtually every milestone in modern American flight since 1963. Its mission is to “ignite and celebrate aerospace ingenuity and collaboration, and its importance to our way of life.”

Its standards, created by aerospace professionals for aerospace professionals, provide best practices and regulatory requirements to allow for economies of scale, expanded trade possibilities, and greater quality and safety of operating aerospace equipment.

Retain Session Information for Registered Users

on Thu, 03/14/2019 - 16:19

Registering a profile on Engineering Village has great benefits, including setting alerts to receive e-mails when new content is added that’s relevant to your research.

Now, registered users can retain specific session information from their last session. This allows you to quickly retrieve and recall records that you may want to re-visit based on your previous session.

Up to 50 searches and 500 selected records are stored from your previous session to recall them on your current one. Even if your session is timed-out, session searches and selected records are saved.

Set Your Engineering School Profile Default Page

on Thu, 03/07/2019 - 20:34

Continuously tracking the engineering research landscape of an institution is easy when you set your default Engineering School Profile page.

Simply click on the “star” next to the institution of your choice, and you’re all set. Every time you visit the Engineering School Profile page from then on, you will see that institution’s research stats by default.

Note that this feature requires registration. Try now.

Keep Track of Your Engineering School's Research Profile

on Tue, 03/05/2019 - 13:39

Last year, we made it easier to demystify your school’s engineering research profile through the Engineering School Profile feature.

This time, we’re making it easier to stay on top of your school’s changing research profile.

You can now create an alert to get an e-mail list of newly added records with authors from the selected institution. This enables deans, chairs, librarians and even engineers to view a university’s engineering research profile as it changes over time.

Make even better decisions with regard to funding, research focus, and overall strategy.

SAE Standards Added to Compendex

on Mon, 03/04/2019 - 13:30

SAE, or the Society of Automotive Engineers, is a “leader in connecting and educating engineers while promoting, developing and advancing aerospace, commercial vehicle and automotive engineering.”

Its mission is to “advance mobility knowledge and solutions for the benefit of humanity.” While its vision is to be “the leader in connecting and educating mobility professionals to enable safe, clean and accessible mobility solutions.”

This week, Compendex on Engineering Village began to add SAE standards records.

Search for the Stars

on Thu, 02/28/2019 - 14:29

Indexing capabilities across Engineering Village help users find more relevant search results. Now, Inspec on Engineering Village has just made it easier to find astronomical objects.

Astronomical indexing within the Inspec database enables users to search for individual astronomical objects. These could include items like constellations, galaxies, star clusters and nebula. Astronomical Indexing is a way of controlling the literature by collecting together celestial objects with standardized designations.

Using the Astronomical indexing, a user can limit to a celestial object in the form of

Year-in-Review 2018

on Fri, 01/11/2019 - 19:12

In 2018, Engineering Village helped users improve their research success by adding valuable standards and patents content, improving the search experience, and de-mystifying the engineering research landscape at institutions across the globe.

Whether you’re new to EV or a seasoned veteran, the below year-in-review summary can help you get up to speed on the latest and greatest product enhancements. Or, if you’d like to see how engineers are using EV to produce results, read these two new solution stories. The first shows how an engineer found a permanent solution to a gas condensate plant

More Ways to Track Engineering Research Output

on Wed, 01/02/2019 - 19:01

The Engineering School Profile, launched on Engineering Village in 2018, helps engineering deans and administrators make better decisions about grant allocations, research focus, and overall strategy.

It demystifies engineering research output and summarizes the research landscape of multiple educational institutions using the power of Compendex.

Now, the Engineering School Profile has just made it easier to track research output at specific institutions, while also giving you access to more must-have information.

Ei Patents Adds the World Intellectual Property Organization Database

on Fri, 12/07/2018 - 20:26

A patent is a government authority or license that provides a sole title to an invention or innovation for a certain length of time, protecting the originator’s rights to sell, make, or use an invention.

Since engineers are often on the front line of innovation, understanding the patent landscape around a field of interest is of utmost importance. A patent literature search is often done to ensure that proprietary innovations are just that – proprietary – and help engineers and their institutions avoid litigation or wasted time.

Still, patent literature review is sometimes overlooked as part
