Quickly Assess The Document and Language Landscape of Your Searches

Many educators and researchers already understand the importance of visual aids (e.g. graphs, charts, etc). But, peer-reviewed research also concludes that “using visuals aids as a teaching method stimulates thinking and improves the learning environment in a classroom.” In addition, “effective use of visual aids substitutes monotonous learning environments.”

Whether in a classroom or in the library, visual representations of data and information make concepts easier to digest. That’s why Engineering Village continues to invest in new ways to represent data in easily consumable formats.

Now, when you search in Engineering Village, you can view the document and language landscape of your search in a pie chart.

For example, a search on “Foundatons” in Compendex yields thousands of results. If I want to visually assess the types of documents relevant to my search term, I simply scroll down to “Document type” on the left hand side and select “View more”. Then, click on the pie chart symbol to view the pie chart.

You can also assess the languages of your search the same way by following the same steps above, but for the “Language” facet.
