Gearing Up for the Engineering Academic Challenge: How Everyone Wins

on Wed, 08/10/2016 - 17:33

By Marilynn Larkin

The Hollywood movie, “The Martian,” opens with a dust storm. How long do such dust storms usually last?

As an R&D engineer with Autodesk, you are developing a CAD system to algorithmically optimize mechanical performance of a 3D-printed metal-lattice structure? Which machine learning technique best avoids the problem of deception?

These are just two examples of the real-world questions thousands of engineering students from hundreds of institutions around the world will face in the upcoming Knovel/Engineering Village

Access new Engineering Village features on a monthly basis

on Tue, 06/02/2015 - 14:05

Have you noticed all the updates to Engineering Village lately? In fact, there have been a regular stream of enhancements over the past 24 months. This is due to Engineering Village’s agile development cycle, a process of continuous improvement which ensures the product remains responsive to its user-community,short time of their emergence.

One of key the characteristics of agile development is that items of functionality or features are less often introduced in a single grandstanding package, but rolled out incrementally over time.

15 millionth record added to the Inspec database

on Thu, 04/30/2015 - 13:54

IET’s Inspec database reached the milestone of adding the 15 millionth record, an article from a team of researchers from Besançon, France, published in the Elsevier journal Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical. This article joins other great scientific achievements featured by Inspec over the years. Researchers, engineers and scientists can access Inspec using the Engineering Village platform, enabling them to quickly obtain information needed to stay up-to-date, fuel scientific discoveries and maximize research effectiveness.

“The coverage of Inspec is impressive, especially in Physics.
